Problem with blurry menugraphics

It there a natural explanation why my menugraphics is so blurry? The letters specially are very unclear/greyish. Not like in screenshots I've seen from the game. I bought this over steam. I've tried to turn all the options on/off in the graphics section, with little success or improvement.

My specs
Vista x32 w/all updates
ATI HD4870 512MB running at 1680x1050
Using latest ATI drivers.

Hi, Stone -

That's the first time I've seen this bug reported.  Does this still happen if you turn off Antialiasing in the options menu?

It would be great if you can email me the log file that gets produced when you run the game.  If you have a standard Steam setup, you can find it here:

    C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\cogs\log.txt

Yes, unfortunately the problem remains when turning off antialiasing.

confirm bug in window mode and in fullscreen (win XP, DX9.0c, Radeon 9550).

I have Cogs v1.0 without antialiasing in options

PS Played it on Win2008Server(Radeon HD 2400 pro) - everything was normal

This looks like a problem with mipmap bias run amok.  When users find bugs that are specific to their hardware setup, I usually send them custom version of Cogs that tries to fix the problem.  When I get a chance to put together some new code that will try to fix this, I'll get in touch with you both by email to see if you're willing to take some time to help out.

I just installed Windows 7 ultimate (RTM), and the problem is no longer occuring. So for me the problem is fixed. Thought you might find that interesting, Rob.

Thanks, Stone!  I looked through my shader code for possible bugs and came to the conclusion that the most likely problem is with the drivers.  And apparently that was exactly the case for you.

Danbst -- have you tried upgrading to the latest drivers for your hardware?

Another user just reported this problem and the following fix for ATI cards:

"I opened up the Catalyst Control Center for ATI graphics cards and moved the Mipmap detail level from high performance to high quality. I found that this made the graphics in the game look just like in the screenshots."

I hope that's helpful for anyone else who sees this issue.
